Print Purchase Ideas

While all photographs on this site are available as fine art prints, Jānis has selected some very special ones available in the Shop Prints navigation. Each is available in a variety of sizes and printed on different materials, including the best archival paper, special photographic canvas and high-tech metal. (See below for explanations and descriptions of each.)

Of course, larger sizes than those listed are available. Please email Jānis with your questions or any special requests you might have: janis@jmiglavs.com. He has helped many clients design their interior home and office spaces (including Fortune 500 companies) wall decor.

1st, Consider Size

While 12x18 might sound like a large print, once it is hung in your home or office, chances are it will look at least one or two standard sizes smaller. The smallest print in this installation—a 16x24 second from end—looks so tiny.

Jānis suggests using a yard stick to rough out sizes in the area you will hang your prints. Better yet, cut out a piece of newsprint or cardboard from an Amazon box to the desired dimension. Then hold it in place to see if the size you are choosing will be large enough. You will likely be surprised how small a 16x24 looks on your wall.

2nd, Consider Type of Print Material

Traditional Loose Archival Photographic Paper

By far the most popular is to have your photographs printed on time-tested archival paper. Since Jānis has printed hundreds of images for home, office and galleries, he selects papers that truly enhance the images and will last a lifetime when displayed properly.

Your loose prints will be carefully rolled into durable tubes and shipped ready to frame.

Fine Art Canvas

Depending on your room decor, printing on canvas might be the right look. Jānis uses the museum quality canvas with a protective UV laminate to ensure durability. The edges can be treated in one of three ways: 1) printed black, 2) the image mirrored around the edge as in the example, or 3) left blank canvas.

Jānis will ship your canvas prints rolled in a durable tube so that your framer can mount it on stretcher bars.

Metal

Metal prints take on a gorgeous luminescence perfect for rooms with a modern look. Infused into the aluminum surface, they come ready to hang with a float mount hanger for your home or office decor. Since the metal prints cannot be rolled or folded, Jānis ships them flat in a well packaged solid box.

Mounting & Framing

Shipping framed photographs is not only expensive but dangerous. That's why Jānis prefers to ship your prints rolled in a thick shipping tube. Then your local framer can handle the prints to your liking.

Traditionally photographs are mounted on some acid-free substrate and then mated as they are here in Senator Mark Haas's Oregon state capitol office.

(Also note Jānis's Oregon The Taste of Wine book peeking in the lower right on the Senator's desk. A great classic gift idea.)

Special Print Idea

For many of his gallery shows, as well as home and corporate installations, Jānis prints his fine art images with a 2-3 inch white border. This gives the appearance of a matted photograph without the expense of having a mat cut. Jānis can do this for your prints for a nominal charge.

One consideration here is that with the direct glass to print contact, Jānis will need to print your images on a special matte paper for best viewing. Please contact Jānis with any questions.

Display & Lighting

Care should be taken, as with any piece of fine art, not to expose the image to high levels of moisture or direct sunlight. The print should be treated as a quality fine art watercolor painting.

Choosing a location having normal humidity levels and minimum exposure to ultra violet light will provide many years of pleasurable viewing. Research shows that under normal display conditions, your print will last 75-100 years.
