Noise of God’s Wings Fill the Night Air

One of my interpretations of the Mursi God as described by the elders.?Since the tripod was locked in the car (read excuse) and the rain poured outside (read second excuse), I decided to take photos of the lightning from inside the dry comfort of my tent. The light illuminating the ceiling of my tent in the photo comes from flash after flash of lightning. Peek through the window to see the outside midnight landscape seem like daylight.?

A powerful thunderstorm struck during the night. Wind howled. Our tents shook like leaves. Thigh-thick branches were ripped from nearby trees. Lightning filled the sky like giant strobes constantly firing. Thunder followed immediately, ricocheting off the ring of rocky mountains. I could hear the rain approach from the distance. It hit like a title wave.

Huddled in my wind-shaken tent, I thought about what the Police guards had said earlier that day when I showed them the Mursi God photo illustration. They asked about the big colorful wings.

“When the god flies, it must cause the thunder,” were the translated words.

I also recalled the Mursi elders saying during my first visit with them, “When God flies, there is lightning.”

I had no doubt God was out there tonight.
