A New God is Born

During one of our frequent drives to Kibish, the last Suri village on the road, Ermius mentioned one Mursi man he met on a previous visit.

“At one time God was much closer,” Ermius recalled the elder’s words.

“Now since you, (meaning outsiders, forenji) come, not so close.”

We arrive in Kibish village. A kid pokes his hand through the open window, “Give me one birr.”

A new god is born.
