Flights LH 469 and 590 Sherwood, Oregon to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, via Frankfurt and Khartoum
At the Portland airport, tearful tearing apart from wife Eddi. How can she possibly put up with these month-long wanderings?
Sunset somewhere north of Winnipeg, Canada. Peering from 10,085 meters, I’m wondering what myths the ancients needed to survive in this frozen land? A nano-second after taking this photo, relief finally came. After months of planning and preparation, the adventure began. I fell asleep.
But the WHY question awoke me. Sleep came in shallow waves during the 20 hours of Airbus 340-300 seat time. Two flights. Somewhere after Italy over the Sahara, I jerked awake.
“Why do this?”
My simple answer: “Some voice from a distant inside calls.”
Helen Keller said that life is a daring adventure, or it is nothing.
“Behind you is a Power beyond your comprehension; God only waits for His children to be willing to be a channel; He only waits for you to serve, knowing that you are nothing. May the channel open wide and the light flood through! By your mental direction it can go forth to heal the nations, to heal the whole world.”
